Pitlochry Dam and Fish Ladder

One of the most unique sites in Perthshire, just 6 miles from our hotel, has to be the Pitlochry Dam and Fish Ladder. Watching salmon climb the specially constructed ladder that allows them to bypass the Pitlochry Dam and swim into manmade Loch Faskally is one of the best loved sites in the area. The Ladder itself is 310 metres long and consists of 34 chambers linked together by tunnels that the salmon swim through. It is not only a tourist attraction, it actually enables around 5000 wild salmon to return to their spawning ground each year.

Admission to the chamber is free although the nearby Visitor Centre charges 3 pound per adult and 2 pound for seniors/children entry fee to discover how hydro-power generation in Scotland was built and used.
