The bothy at Loch Skiach

The Bothy at Loch Skiach with a gloomy Craig Lochie in the distance.

In the hills above Logierait and Balinluig is a fantastic little bothy on the banks of Loch Skiach. It is located up a landrover track on the Kinnaird Estate about 5km from the road. The bothy is an excellent spot for lunch (it provided some much needed spoons for today’s porridge), but is pretty exposed and has been freezing cold every time we have visited. The walk itself is pretty stunning and can be made into various loops taking in Craig Lochie, Creag Martach and another wee loch whose name I can never remember.

In all you can wander these tracks for about 18km although the subsidiary loops have only very basic wet peaty paths. It is possible to get fishing access for the lochs from the Kinnaird Estate and the route we tend to walk is very rideable on a mountain bike.

As you descend the track back to the road you get superb views across the River Tay to Ben Vrackie and Beinn a ghlo and you even get a glimpse of Loch Ordie.
