Glen Clova

Distance - 107 miles/172 km

Here you can take in the rich landscape of one of Scotland’s least visited areas, quite why is a mystery – it’s beautiful! The route takes you up Glen Clova and further on to Glen Doll where there is a visitor centre and waymarked walks through lush woodland surrounded by mountainous slopes. Starting off from Pitlochry travel south for a short distance on the A9 before turning off towards the twin towns of Blairgowrie and Rattray. This road weaves its way through the countryside passing close to the Loch of the Lowes visitor centre with its famous ospreys.

Once through Blairgowrie the road passes through Perthshire’s famous berry growing area to arrive at Kirriemuir, birthplace of JM Barrie, who wrote Peter Pan. From here head up into dramatic Glen Clova which runs 18 miles north from Kirriemuir before extending one way to Glen Doll, where fabulous walking awaits.

Take the 1 hour gently sloping and very easy walk to Corrie Fee to stand in the magnificent bowl scooped out of the surrounding mountains by a glacier during the ice age – jaw dropping! Back down Glen Doll to The Glen Clova hotel which is open all day for really good food and a warm welcome. From Kirriemuir you’ll go through remote Glen Isla with its scattered communities to bring you out at the foothills of Glenshee. Travel through to the village of Kirkmichael then through pretty Strathardle and past Ben Vrackie back towards Pitlochry.
